The Lost Angel Gabriel

Gabe began his specials career in Canada in 2013. He had originally come to Canada as a puppy in the summer of 2011, and immediately in his first long show weekend accomplished his Canadian championship.  Gabe is dual registered with the CKC and the AKC.

Gabe achieves AKC-GCH Gold title in October, 2015

Gabe, Best In Specialty, 2014 Basenji Club of Canada National

Gabe's #20 Best In Show, May 24, 2014 in Winnipeg, Canada

Great weekend with Gabe's #17 BIS in Canada and starting 2014 in the top #10 All breeds in Canada. Thank you Mrs Valerie Hansen for this lovely BIS

In 2012, Gabe was a Top Dog in the U.S.  He held the No. 1 position for most of the year, and finished at No. 2.  He was unable to attend the U.S. National held in July 2011 in Gettysburg, PA due to flying/weather issues, so he was No. 2 in breed and all-breed points to a related dog from California. Gabe won Best of Opposite, and AOM at Eukanuba 2012, and also a Crufts placement and a BCOC AOM.  In the U.S., Gabe has been shown by Sergio Espejo and in Canada, by Edgar Rojas.

Gabe did finish the year as No. 1 Top Dog Grand Champion, having overall defeated more champions, even without the National Specialty win than any other Basenji in the country. Gabe had 3 U.S. Regional Specialty wins multiple group placement and an All Breed BIS AKC  before coming to Canada and he also won the Canadian National booster the day after the National in 2011 at St. John’s and a 2012 AOM.

Gabe’s dam is Ch. Ahmahr Nahr’s Babe of the Kalahari, Sire, G Ch Illusion’s Texson J.C., whelped December 10, 2010. Gabe is the grandson on his mother’s side of MBIS, MBIF, MBISS, G Ch Ahmahr Nahr’s Jake Jamal To Mibre, who was both a Top Dog in Canada and the U.S., and the son of “Tex” who was a Top Dog in the U.S.  Gabe was bred by Jennie Behles (Ahmahr Nahr) and Florene Haven of Kali Kids Basenjis.  He comes out of an amazing litter.  His siblings, G Ch Ahmahr Nahr’s Hallelujah Makes a Joyful Noise, and G Ch You’re the One (Ernie, aka Dandy) have also been top achievers.

Gabe’s claim to fame is his beautiful square body with the appearance of being high in leg with an incredible gait, from the side, from the front, or from the rear.  Gabe is a tireless mover, and always a gentleman.

Last year Gabe fathered two litters, one in Canada, and one in the U.S., and proved to be a great producer, stamping his beautiful square appearance and side gait on his get.

In 2013 Gabe was the No. 1 Basenji, a Top Dog Hound, and a Top Ten Dog all breed.  It is believed that Gabe is the first basenji to be a Top Ten Dog All Breed. Gabe won the Sicalam Championship in Guatemala in 2011, and the FCI Caribe and Las Americas title in 2012 in Puerto Rico.

Gabe and Edgar seem to have developed an incredible relationship, which I’m sure as Gabe would describe a working partnership.  Edgar works at getting him the tastiest chicken available, Gabe works at gobbling it up and showing his best.  There is nothing like a simple partnership to lead to success.

In 2013 Gabe crowned a fantastic year of achievement in Canada by being the first Basenji ever, in Canadian Kennel Club history, or the history of the Basenji Club of Canada, to finish in the Top Ten dogs of All Breed.  Consider the achievement.  Basenjis are dogs low in popularity and  on the registration scale, and not known for the “cuteness” factor. Basenji’s are a performance dog, and Gabe embodies the performance standard in the show ring.  Edgar maintains him in superb condition and he has beautiful movement, belying his ever so square body.

This was a record breaking year for Gabe who broke the most record Best in Shows by a Basenji in the CKC in one year, which is 16, and he broke the record for total All Breed points earned by a Basenji. The record on all those fronts was previously held by his grandfather, MBIS  MBISS BIF D Ch Ahmahr Nahr’s Jake Jamar To Mibre RC JGC CCC CD RN.

Gabe is a charming dog whose only desire is to please.  He loves his handler, he loves his “moms,” and he loves his kennel mates.  Gabe has enjoyed himself playing with a Portuguese Waterdog and Barbet buddies.  He has traveled this great county in their company, from coast to coast, to meet the Dog Fancy.  Gabe’s record in Canada is 57 Group 1’s, and 136 total overall group placements in 2013.  He has won the Central Ontario Regional Specialty, but has not yet won a Basenji Club of Canada National Specialty since beginning his career in Canada.

Unfortunately for Gabe, he has been busy, and has only had one opportunity to show for one such event, and that was when he was being campaigned in the U.S.  Gabe’s U.S. record put him the Top Grand Champion Basenji for 2012, and the No. 2 Basenji in overall Group breed and Points.  Gabe was the Best of Opposite Winner in Eukanuba in 2012, and the winner of multiple specialties in the U.S. Perhaps Gabe will get the opportunity to show in a National specialty in the future.  Unfortunately U.S. National Specialties are held at the time of the year when flying a dog is pretty difficult.

Only one record remains to be broken, and Gabe and Edgar will  try to break it.  This will require more of the same great conditioning and performances that Gabe and Edgar have turned in this year and the appreciation of the judge’s and the Dog Fancy.  Gabe wants to thank the judges and the Fancy for supporting him all year long.  He has had a tremendous audience no matter where he has gone.  He enjoys meeting each and every one of you.

Gabe has also produced a litter of Champion puppies in Canada, and his first daughter.  Ch Africanadian’s PB&J, earned her Canadian championship in 2013, and went on to be the No. 3 in Canada with very limited showing, all before she reached the age of 1 year.  Gabe comes from a long line of special dogs.  His maternal grandfather was the great Jake, whose record he will try to break.  His paternal grandfather was GCh Illusion’s Tex Son JC, a dog who won a regionals specialty in the U.S. at age 12, and was a Top Ranked dog in the U.S., just as grandpa Jake had been.  Gabe looks forward to his attempt to better his grandfather’s record, and to helping improve the bloodlines in Canada for Basenjis.

In Aug 2014 at Kilbride the CKC record for BIS by a Basenji held by Gabe's granddaddy Jake, finally fell - BIS#27 under Luis Miguel Pinto Texiera of Portugal. Many years ago he had given Jake a G1 in Latin America but never had the opportunity to judge him at BIS.
Gabe had his own "World Dog Show" at Kilbride also receiving a G1 Saturday from French judge Sylvia Sesserne and Sun a G1 and RBIS under Phillipine judge Marjbel Sy. He could not make the 25 hour summer embargo laden trip to Finland but this was better.
Special thanks to all his kennel mates owners, the doggie parents of Murdock, Oceania and Gypsy who, as always, were there to mutually help each other and cheer everyone on. . Many Specialties were won and grp placements earned though their mutual efforts and support of our fine handler Edgar Rojas who had his entrie family there to help. A GREAT JUDGE and A GREAT DAY!
